Yes! And not necessarily a table but alone in confrontation. I instantly thought of my own Jack Slaughter. My books are told solely from Jack's POV, and he's somewhat a solitary character. Naturally as a PI, he meets a lot of people one-on-one, but even when he's part of a larger group, it's always himself and the lead antagonist and the rest of the group fades into the shadows of the scene.
He also has a great way of dividing lengthy scenes into pieces. This was brilliantly done in Pulp Fiction. Like the amazing comedian Billy Connelly, who admits starting a joke then wandering away from it, Tarantino and Connelly both eventually come around the punch line...or the punch.
Tarantino is a brilliant writer and has a knack for pulling on many strings with his viewers...anticipation, nervousness, excitement...even grossing us out with his over-the-top sprays of blood and gore.
