While I don’t ignore the news, I don’t have the time to keep up on everything modern technology throws at us everyday. Most of the time, I feel like I’m firefighting rather than employing prevention methods. This is one of those cases.

I was made aware that during recent Microsoft updates, they sneakily switched on their AI scraping tool.

What Is AI Scraping?

In Miquido’s post, AI Data Scraping, the process is well-described as:

AI data scraping, also known as web scraping, is the automated process of extracting information from websites. It involves collecting data from web pages by identifying specific patterns in the HTML or through APIs. Data scraping can gather a variety of content, including text, images, videos, and metadata, which is then analyzed or stored for various uses.

While it can be done manually, it is usually performed using software tools or scripts that navigate web pages, parse the information, and store it in a structured format, such as a database or spreadsheet.

In order for this process to take place, certain options must be enabled so computers can talk with each other. What this means for MSWord is that anything you write using this program is being scraped (collected/gathered/stolen…)…
