I can't remember ever reading an article that warmed me inside so quickly and threw memories at me like water balloons and covered me in such good feelings. Thank you, Barry!
I clearly remember The Archies, The Monkees, and The Partridge Family. Sure, as a kid, I watched their TV programs. I loved David Cassidy so much, as an 8 year old, that I had to have every record they releases and had his posters all over my bedroom...including the ceiling so I could see David the moment I woke up in the morning, in whatever position I was in. I was hooked! I sang along with all the TV shows and still remember the lyrics so many decades later. And still get those instant feel good sensations. The music reminds me of happy childhood days. Who can fault that?!
This is my reply to Paul Combs' comment here:
Bubblegum pop/rock as a genre transcends the generations. Every decade has their own pop stars. The 60s had the Beatles, the 70s had the Partridge Family, the 70-80s had Journey, the 90s had the Spice Girls, and so it goes. I loved them all through the years, and others. The music is rhythmic, the lyrics catchy, and when you get to my age and still sing along, one can argue that this genre is a lasting one.
I'll just say, I was raised with music. My parents were very young when I was born so it was somewhat like kids raising kids. That extends to music. Dad had a huge collection of music so I was initiated into many genres. I love the catchy (bubblegum?) music of the 50s, the blended genres of the 60s and 70s, and so on. I love it all. But anything that makes me want to dance or bop along and sing along with will always dig up so many great memories.
Thanks again, Barry!
