Every horror needs a villain. House haunting have spirits. Our dreams have Freddy. Halloween has Michael. Mirrors have Candyman. Friday the 13ths have Jason.

And the ocean has sharks.

If The Meg can be classed as horror, why not Jaws? Jaws was here long before The Meg. Both are sinister characters, both intent on destroying humans.

The question begs asking, will The Meg c.2018 hold up in 50 years as Jaws c.1975 has? I doubt it. Looking at viewer rankings, Jaws maintains an 8.1/10 rating over The Megs puny 5.7/10.

If awards for films can be awarded posthumously, Jaws is certainly deserving.
