As well as being an author, I also run a small publishing house. We often receive submissions for personal memoirs, even though we superficially say we don't publish them (unless you're a big name).
The thing with memoirs and why no one wants to read them is that unless they're written by or are about a big name, the only people who might be the least bit interested is the author's immediate family. A publishing house can't afford that investment.
I love a good biography or auto-bio, but personal memoirs from unknowns aren't going to make a best seller list.
